課程概述 |
This course provides students with a general understanding of the nature, history and theories of translation, translation problems caused by language and cultural differences between English and Chinese, and the fundamental translation skills. Subjects to be covered include the nature and process of translation, translation history and its latest development, translation theories and their application, comparison and contrast between the English and Chinese languages and translation problems caused by their differences, as well as basic translation skills. |

課程目標 |
By the end of the semester, students shall be able to translate literary and non-literary texts on their own and identify the pros and cons of each translation. They will also become familiar with theories of translation and will learn to implement them in their own translations and research projects. |

課程要求 |
1. Attendance is mandatory. Students who miss more than three classes (or six class periods) will automatically fail the course.
2. All assignments must be submitted within the designated time period. No late submission is allowed unless there is prior negotiation with the instructor.
3. Students are expected to proactively participate in each class meeting and complete assigned tasks after class (e.g. self-critic, peer review, etc.). |
